SB 887 to the floor!

The Senate Environment & Land Use Committee moved SB 887 (revokes ORS-222 Island Annexation language - among other things) to the Senate floor on a 3 - 2 vote yesterday.

It ended up with several amendments - among them the "Nike Bill" language. The "unholy alliance" is predicting awful consequences if this thing passes. Senators Burdick and Beyer were the "No" votes with Senators Atkinson, Shields and Ringo voting in support.

My feeling is that the amendments reduce the bill's chances in the Senate - but now's the time to be contacting your senator and urging support. This move was an important "next step" in our fight to bring much-needed fairness to Oregon's annexation processes. It is the first of the bills toward that end to make it out of committee.

We are hopeful that HB 2484 will also pass out of committee tomorrow. The Senate committee revisits SB 699 to exempt only certain businesses from forced annexation today.
