2005-01-27 Alert 2195 Reform in the SenateEven MORE good news on ORS-195:In our earlier alert today we told you that Rep. Bill Garrard and 4 cosponsors have introduced a house bill to clarify the voting provision of ORS-195 as meaning "double majority." WE NOW HAVE A COMPANION SENATE BILL! It's SB 380, courtesy of our long-time ally Senator Kurt Schrader - and Senator Ben Westlund. Many of you remember that then-Rep. Westlund abandoned us at a critical moment in the last session with HB 3211. But hopefully he'll stick with us this time. This is pretty amazing news, all within one day! Right now, SB 380 is sitting on Senate President Peter Courtney's desk. WE NEED TO CONTACT SENATOR COURTNEY AND URGE THAT THE BILL BE ASSIGNED TO A COMMITTEE ASAP AND GIVEN A HEARING! Senator Courtney's contact info: 503-986-1600 phone 900 Court St. NE, S-203 Salem, OR 97301 And please drop a "thank you" to Senators Schrader and Westlund. The "unholy alliance" is probably having a cow over all this! But all the ruckus we've raised is paying off. NOW IT'S TIME TO GET TO WORK, FOLKS! On another front, what is arguably the most far-reaching bill yet introduced would reduce income, capital gains and other taxes and impose a sales tax. It's SB 382, also sponsored by Senator Schrader. The current web version is hard to read. Another critical one is SB 406 which appears to be aimed at implementing Measure 37 with changes. I haven't carefully reviewed either yet, but you might want to take a look....in your spare time! Jerry Ritter Secretary, OCVA This page last modified on 2005-11-16 08:29. |
