2005-03-21 Alert

2484 pulled again

The work session for HB 2484 scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled. This marks the second time a work session has been scheduled for the bill, then cancelled.

We haven't been able to find out why yet. Rep. Greenlick said he thinks the session will be held on 3/31 and that some version of annexation reform will be enacted this session. He also noted that he's received more input on annexation than on any other topic this session.

Meanwhile, Salem city officials have become some of the most vocal opponents to any reform. One of them is even lobbying 1000 Friends to join them in opposing annexation reform and is predicting dire consequences if any of our measures passes. The public sector has dug in its heels against further public participation in the public process! And our taxes are paying the salaries of this bunch!

There was also a second hearing scheduled for SB 699 (exempts certain industries from forced annexation….but nobody else) was scheduled by the Senate Environment & Land Use Committee, but it's no longer on the schedule.

Stay tuned - we'll share additional information as we receive it.
