2005-04-28 Alert

2484 PASSES!

We've just received word from "The Hill" that our HB 2484 to clarify ORS-195, sections 205 - 215 as requiring double majority approval for ORS-195 ("service provider") annexations has passed the full House by a 45 - 13 margin!

This is a far bigger majority than I think any of us expected. The Speaker's office announced the passage and said the bill will move on to the Senate.

This is truly a BIG DAY in the history of the effort to bring fairness to annexation law in Oregon. ORS-195 is arguably the most onerous annexation law on the state's books.

YOU did this - all of you! But we all owe a special debt of gratitude to Rep. Krummel and the other sponsors of the bill who REPRESENTED "The People" and stuck with this thing. And to the 45 "Yea" votes. We'll get that information shortly.

SO - everyone can celebrate tonight. BUT THE REALITY IS THAT THE BATTLE IS ONLY 2/5 WON!! There's a lot of work left to do, but the margin of approval in the House certainly gives us hope.

Thank you, one and all - A GREAT DAY INDEED!!

Secretary, OCVA
