Island bill up again

The Senate Environmental & Land Use Committee is currently scheduled to revisit SB 887 with a second hearing and possible work session on March 29, 7 AM, Hearing Room 343 at the capitol. Again remember that schedules change all the time, so if you're planning to attend, be sure you contact Katie Lowry the afternoon of 3/28 to be sure the hearing is still on.

SB 887 revokes the island annexation language of ORS 222.750, among other things. We know this is a hot topic for a lot of you - so if you haven't done it (or even if you have) now's the time to contact the committee members. We've provided contact information several times recently. This information is also available on the Legislature's website at www.leg.state.or.us

I think the central arguing point is that cities are abusing this language by "cherrystemming" and intentionally creating islands - which can then be forcibly annexed with no vote. And it's not just Beaverton that's doing it.
