HB 2484 Work Session June 2!!

Senator Ringo has scheduled a WORK SESSION (not a hearing) for HB 2484 on Thursday, June 2 - solely for the purpose of moving the bill to the Senate Rules Committee!

Rules is the traditional graveyard for bills toward the end of a session. Given the shortness of time, this is almost certainly a death sentence. There is NO NEED OR JUSTIFICATION THAT WE CAN SEE OR IMAGINE for this bill to go to Rules - unless SB 887A now contains its provisions.

We should be able to see what's in the House-amended version of SB 887A later this week. Unofficially, it does contain ORS-195 reform...but it's unclear whether this is the language of HB 2484 or just a basically meaningless 2 - year moratorium.

In any event, what IS clear is that Senator Ringo does NOT intend to hold a hearing on this bill. But we need to see what's in SB 887A before we judge the Senator and his committee. Stay tuned.

Secretary, OCVA
